CHRISTMAS WISH TREE PROJECT TO HELP ORANG ASLI CHILDREN GET DRESSED TO HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL

Melaka, 6th December 2016 – In the true spirit of the season, Philea Resort and Spa, Melaka had recently launched the Christmas Wish Tree charity project, an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed to bring a touch of joy to those less fortunate in the community.

This year, we adopted 20 Orang Asli (aborigines) children under JUS Chapel Tribal Ministry in Melaka hoping to get new school uniforms to prepare for new school year. It costs about RM50 to purchase a new set of uniform for the poor children.

To fulfill their needs, the wish cards have been hung on the Christmas tree at the lobby with colorful ornaments and lights. Throughout the month of December, resort guests and local alike are welcome to make a child’s wish come true and put smiles on their faces by donating RM50 cash for each wish card. The cash donated will be used to purchase new school uniforms for the Orang Asli children.

These children, between six to 16 years old, came from Orang Asli villages in Pahang and Melaka. Most of them are from poor communities living in poverty such as staying with parents who are unable to provide education for all children or single-parent families struggling to cover the basic needs. These children were then taken onto the educational program under the mission name of JUS Chapel Tribal Ministry in Melaka to provide them with basic education. The home houses 20 children which 11 of them currently getting into Solid Rock homeschool in Tengkera and the rest are in local secondary schools. The home also depends on charitable donations in order to support the child’s education program in Melaka.

Speaking about the initiative, Tee Mei Fong, the resort’s Assistant Marcom Manager said, “For many of these children, a brand new school uniform may be out of reach. This year, instead of struggling to find a gift for that person on your list, you can help to fulfill the basic education needs for these poor children by contributing for just RM50 to get them one new set of school uniform. Sometimes, it’s the little things that can make the biggest impact.”
